Arts Education is more than drawing a picture or writing a song or creating the set for a scene in a play. Engaging in the arts has a tremendous impact on the developmental growth of every child and has proven to help level the "learning field" across socio-economic boundaries by strengthening critical-thinking, cognitive and creative skills.
Texas PTA supports arts education as a key element in education. Through the arts, students nurture important values including team-building skills, respecting alternative viewpoints, and appreciating and being aware of different cultures and traditions. About Reflections...Started in 1969 by then Colorado PTA President Mary Lou Anderson, Reflections has encouraged millions of students to express themselves by giving positive recognition for their artistic efforts. Students in preschool through grade 12 may create and submit works of art in six categories: dance choreography, film production, literature, musical composition, photography, and visual arts. Any PTA/PTSA in good standing is eligible to sponsor Reflections on their campus. Students should consult their PTA to confirm they are sponsoring the program and to learn when and where to submit their entries. Students are encouraged to download the guidelines below to begin the creative process. |
