My name is Pagette Callender, and I am the Redland Oaks PTA President for 2013-2014. I am the mom of Carson, a Redland Oaks 5th grader, as well as Hudson, an 8th grader at Driscoll Middle School. I’m a pediatric RN as well as a small business owner. There are exciting things to come this year, and I look forward to volunteering with many of you. We will be kicking off our membership drive on Thursday, August 22, at Meet the Teacher Night. Our membership theme for this year is “Be Your Kid’s Biggest Fan. Be PTA.” Please become a PTA member, and help us as we partner with our school to provide resources and programs for our students! Remember: moms and dads, grandmas and grandpas, and even businesses can join our PTA. Membership does not commit you to volunteering, just to supporting our children! Redland Oaks PTA members will be present on the porch of the school on Thursday evening to answer questions, have sign-ups for upcoming events, and accept memberships. We will also have our Spirit Shop open. For those of you who are new to the Redland Family, welcome! Please join us in the library at 8am on Monday, August 26, for “Coffee and Connections”. We would love to meet you and visit with you about opportunities to become involved in both big and small ways during the year. If you are on Facebook, please “Like” our page, and please go to our Website and subscribe to our blog, thus giving you the most up-to-date information about PTA opportunities, news, and events. I am looking forward to a great year at Redland Oaks! If I can help you in any way or answer questions for you, please call me 210.288.8287, or email me [email protected]. Arts Education is more than drawing a picture or writing a song or creating the set for a scene in a play. Engaging in the arts has a tremendous impact on the developmental growth of every child and has proven to help level the "learning field" across socio-economic boundaries by strengthening critical-thinking, cognitive and creative skills.
Texas PTA supports arts education as a key element in education. Through the arts, students nurture important values including team-building skills, respecting alternative viewpoints, and appreciating and being aware of different cultures and traditions. About Reflections...Started in 1969 by then Colorado PTA President Mary Lou Anderson, Reflections has encouraged millions of students to express themselves by giving positive recognition for their artistic efforts. Students in preschool through grade 12 may create and submit works of art in six categories: dance choreography, film production, literature, musical composition, photography, and visual arts. Any PTA/PTSA in good standing is eligible to sponsor Reflections on their campus. Students should consult their PTA to confirm they are sponsoring the program and to learn when and where to submit their entries. Students are encouraged to download the guidelines below to begin the creative process. |
